Thank God it's halloween!

It just means that there are less then 12 hours until NaNo. I've been so pumped for NaNo this year.  I have a great story that I planned and started in one day about a month ago.

So, just to give some background on NaNo...This is my 4th year and I have yet to reach my 50,000 word goal, although I can very close last year with 37, 000 words.  I started NaNo after a friend made me sign up and I had such a good time writing and planning...that story needs some editing and the last few chapters until it's finished.

Anywho, this year marks a new approach to NaNo...I'm writing young Adult...a new genre for me, but I'm very excited.  So Hallie Sanders, the main man, is a sophomore at a private Catholic high school in Maine.  She is part of the creative writing competition team when she discovers that someone has stolen her story.  The mystery starts there.  First she has to find out who is stealing her stories as well as who is benefiting from her words.

It has the elements of a Nancy Drew mystery without the supernatural or myth basis.  Growing up there were very few young adult mystery writers.  Joan Lowery Nixon is the only one I remember.  From her I moved on to the Queen of Suspense, Mary Higgins Clark and eventually Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich and Patricia Cornwell.  While I love mysteries and suspense, I wished there were more young adult versions.   My reading level has always been way ahead of my grade, but reading descriptive passages on corpses and decomposition at the age of 12 or 13, it can't necessarily be a good thing.

I guess, I want to write something that bridges between adulthood and childhood.  Something middle schoolers would want to read.

So I'm waiting for bedtime to get up early and write as much as possible.  I already have the first paragraph written in my head...that's not cheating, is it?
