So none of you know this, but I, along with two close friends, started a non-profit theatre company, which has been a lot of paper work and stuff, but now we are moving things along. Auditions for our first show will be next week. We are doing Proof, which is a great play. Anyways, we've have gotten at least a dozen or so people tell us they are interested in auditioning and I posted the notice at like 4:30 yesterday. I think that is awesome and
cloverdew is going to make our website, which I'm totally stoked about.
Anyways, if you want some more info on use see .
RHODORA THEATRE COMPANY
"BEAUTY IS ITS OWN EXCUSE FOR BEING"
The Rhodora Theatre Company is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity named after the Emerson poem containing the line, "beauty is its own excuse for being." We seek to bring beauty, for its own sake, to the DC community, via live theater. Our goal is to stage productions of high literary value at an accessible admissions price. We seek true involvement with the community, with outreach to all ages, neighborhoods, and income levels not just for our audience, but for our cast and crew as well. A portion of each show's profits will be donated to a charity related to the theme of the show, in order to further support our DC metropolitan area community.
Rhodora is currently working on our first production, Proof, by David Auburn, which we plan to stage at the District of Columbia Arts Center on May 23 and 24, 2009. This acclaimed contemporary drama about a young woman with unrecognized genius explores themes of mental illness, family ties, and the struggle to prove one's worth in the face of disbelief. Half of the profits from this show will be donated to Mentors Inc, a local charity that works to increase the graduation rates and success of our community's public high school students by pairing them with caring adult volunteers in structured and enriched mentoring relationships that promote their personal, academic and career development. The creation of the Rhodora Theatre Company has been an exciting but costly adventure for us. Because we give a portion of our shows' profits to charity, we depend heavily on donations from supporters like you to cover our operating costs. All donations to the Rhodora Theatre Company are tax-deductible.
Please make checks payable to Rhodora Theatre Company. Donations of over $50 will receive two complimentary tickets to our upcoming show. Through your generous donations, we hope to build a thriving organization that will bring accessible theater to our community for many years to come!
Sincerely,
Rhodora Theatre Company Board of Directors
